October Head of the Class and All-Star Kids Winners Announced

Cavs.com

Education is one of the pillars of the Cleveland Cavaliers’ community efforts and as part of that, the organization recognizes exemplary teachers and students throughout Northeast Ohio. Each month during the regular season, the Cavs select one teacher and one student to receive the team’s Head of the Class and All-Star Kids awards, respectively.

Head of the Class recognizes teachers in Northeast Ohio that make a difference in their students’ lives both inside and outside of the classroom. The first winner of the 2019-20 season was Maggie Gray, a physical education teacher at Scranton Elementary School in Cleveland, where she creates an environment that is safe, welcoming and engaging for all students. Ms. Gray is loved by students, parents and fellow staff members alike. October’s Head of the Class is known for being welcoming to everyone and very involved in school events.

Ms. Gray enjoyed a school visit from Cavs in-arena host Ahmaad and mascot Moondog, who presented her with a $500.00 donation to use towards her classroom. Ms. Gray also received tickets and passes for complimentary food and beverage in the Westfield Champions Club to the October 30th Cavs game, where she was honored at center court.

All-Star Kids recognizes students who set a positive example for their peers. The first winner of the 2019-20 season was Eerie Blankenship, a second grader at Dentzler Elementary School in Parma, where he is an outstanding student, great leader and a friend to everyone. Eerie keeps up with his homework and makes other people smile every day. He and his family are part of the FAST program (Families and Schools Together).

Ahmaad and Moondog surprised Eerie at school to present him with tickets and passes for complimentary food and beverage in the Westfield Champions Club to the Cavs game on October 30th, where he was honored at center court. He will also receive a pizza party for his class at a later date.
