Last week, the Chicago Bulls and The Miracle Center (TMC), a female-owned and operated community center that empowers youth through the expression of art and performance, celebrated the unveiling of a new basketball court on the Northwest side of Chicago in the Belmont Cragin Community. In partnership with All-Star Press and Connors Sports, the Bulls worked with local painter and muralist Liz Flores to redesign TMC’s basketball court. Artist, Liz Flores created TMC’s court with art that is culturally reflective of the center and Chicago Bulls Latiné communities. &nbsp;

“At the Miracle Center, we are committed to providing the community with a safe space, a space that families can enjoy themselves and participate in programs such as theatre, dance film and photography,” said TMC Founder and Executive Director Mary Santana. “Having TMC alumni and families here with us during this unveiling is extremely special to us. We are so proud to be expanding and creating new opportunities for the Belmont Cragin community.”&nbsp;

TMC recently expanded to a larger facility that includes a new sports program and basketball court, ensuring that Chicago youth have access to resources and opportunities that encourage youth development. Over 200 TMC families and alumni along with Bull’s entertainment and Benny The Bull gathered to celebrate this milestone. TMC Founder Mary Santana and Associate Director Vanessa Torres held time for brief remarks before TMC history was captured with a passing of the ball moment to honor all who helped with the project and a first shot thrown by Mary Santana. &nbsp;

“The court design was a project that I was honored to be a part of – with the Miracle Center in my neighborhood and seeing the impact the center has on the Latiné community, this project felt super important to me,” said Artist Liz Flores. “I wanted to make sure the design of the court was something that was function and embodies the importance of community.”&nbsp;

The Chicago Bulls believe in the power of sports for all and know the positive impact that playing basketball can have on youth. Basketball is more than a game and by increasing access to health and wellness resources, like sports, the Bulls hope to play a part in reducing health inequality, a part of our community violence prevention approach. The Bulls are committed to preventing community violence and believe in the power of investing in education, community investment, health and wellness and access to opportunities to help reverberate change in Chicago’s vibrant communities.  &nbsp;

“Growing up, The Miracle Center gave me a safe space to be creative, express myself and learn valuable leadership skills. I have built a family and community here and have had the privilege to experience what true mentorship is,” said TMC Alum Anais Zayas. “The center means safety, support and unconditional love. Being a part of the court unveiling was a really special moment now that I have my own family.”
