Bulls host Navy enlistment ceremony before game
Team partners with Naval Station Great Lakes to sponsor fifth Bulls’ recruiting class
March 28, 2013 -- The Chicago Bulls hosted a swearing-in ceremony for approximately 90 Navy recruits prior to the team’s game versus the Miami Heat on Thursday. The ceremony was held on the court at the United Center and included remarks from Commander of Navy Region Midwest Rear Admiral Rick Williamson and Executive Officer of Navy Recruiting District Chicago Commander Nancy Fink.
The recruits were part of the Chicago Bulls Special Recruit Division, and 2013 marks the fifth year the Bulls have sponsored a Navy recruitment division. Bulls EVP/Basketball Operations John Paxson represented the team during the ceremony and presented the recruits with their guidon, a flag including the Bulls logo.
Basic training for the Chicago Bulls Division began once they arrived at Recruit Training Command, Great Lakes immediately after the game and will last approximately eight weeks. The group will remain together as a single Chicagoland unit and will proudly display their Bulls guidon during the entire training process.
The Bulls are the only NBA team to sponsor a Navy recruit division.
