Milwaukee Bucks Shooting Guard Donte DiVincenzo Launches Game-Changing Fundraising Campaign for Clean Water with Hoops2o

Milwaukee Bucks Shooting Guard Donte DiVincenzo, who is collectively a part of the Hoops2o charitable program, will showcase his favorite game-changing play of his career to engage fans in the Hoop2o effort to eradicate water scarcity. The social media campaign will run for one week, through December 15. It will highlight how water is the most significant game-changing investment for communities in Sub-Saharan Africa, asking fans to donate to the cause.

The social media campaign that begins today also includes the following NBA athletes in addition Donte DiVincenzo: Malcolm Brogdon, Justin Anderson, Tim Frazier, Kyle Guy, Joe Harris, De’Andre Hunter, Kyle Lowry, Garrett Temple, and Anthony Tolliver.

“This time of year, there is a unique focus on gift-giving, and we want to encourage people to give the gift of clean water to those who need it most,” says Malcolm Brogdon, founder Hoops2o. “Just like basketball players have the opportunity to influence the outcome of a game, clean water changes the daily lives of individuals and communities. My teammates and I have been lucky to make some game-changing plays in our basketball careers, but we believe the ultimate game-changing play happens beyond the paint.”

Building on last week’s successful launch of the college basketball division of Hoops2o through the announcement of 2019 NCAA Championship-winning Coach Tony Bennett as the first Hoops2o Head Coach, the NBA “Game Changer” campaign will allow fans the opportunity to be a part of the Hoops2o team in a new, empowering way.

From December 10-15, Donte DiVincenzo and the rest of the Hoops2o team will post on their respective social media accounts their favorite game-changing plays from their career. The stars will encourage fans to make their game-changing play by making an $8 donation to provide water to one person at hoops2o.org

Each $8 donation goes towards the funding of Hoops2o sustainable well projects that serve communities of up to 7,500 people in Tanzania and Kenya. By taking part in the Game Changer campaign and donating, fans will change the futures of entire communities in need. For each well project constructed, a game-changing impact is made for that community, providing improved health, increased educational opportunities, and greater economic development.

“The best plays make you stand up and cheer and are talked about well beyond that single game,” continued Brogdon. “Providing water is that big play on a global level, the play that changes everything. We’ve been able to help over 20,000 people so far through Hoops2o, and I’m hopeful by the end of this campaign, we will be adding a few more thousand people to those numbers served.

Hoops2o is a program of the successful Waterboys initiative. Waterboys was started by NFL Walter Payton Man of the Year Chris Long in 2015 and has delivered the gift of clean water to over 330,000 people in East Africa. Together with the NFL Waterboys program, Hoops2o uses a collective impact model to unite as many people as possible in the same goal: bringing clean water to one million people.

About Hoops2o:

Started by Indiana Pacers point guard Malcolm Brogdon, Hoops2o recruits players from across the NBA to raise funds and awareness for clean water initiatives in East Africa. Brogdon is leading a team of NBA playmakers, called the “Starting 5,” that are dedicated to using their platform to engage fans in the clean water crisis. The group joins forces with their NFL counterparts who are part of the NFL Waterboys program that was started by 2018 Walter Payton Man of the Year Chris Long in 2015. The world’s clean water crisis goes far beyond inadequate access to drinking water. Water scarcity limits educational, economic and agricultural opportunities and shortens life expectancies for the most vulnerable. Hoops2o is a program of Waterboys and is supported by The Chris Long Foundation.

About Waterboys:

Founded in 2015 by two-time Super Bowl Champion Chris Long, Waterboys unites professional NFL and NBA athletes and fans from across the world in support of a single, shared cause: providing clean, accessible drinking water to 1 million people. By working together, players and fans can make a meaningful difference for communities in desperate need by funding sustainable clean water projects. These projects provide life-giving water and all that comes from it – including the opportunities for education, good health, and economic stability. Initially starting with projects in East Africa, Waterboys expanded its work in 2019 to also include U.S water projects. To date, Waterboys has raised over $4 million with the help of over 45 professional athletes, providing clean drinking water to more than 330,000 people as a result.
