The basis of the design reflects on papel picados, a traditional Mexican decorative craft of elaborate patterns cut into colorful sheets of tissue paper. It is commonly seen correlated with the Day of The Dead but is also crafted for many other holidays and special events. This acted as the starting point and inspiration for the overall design.
The Hispanic and Latino community includes people whose ancestors hail from over 20 nations across Mexico, the Caribbean, Central and South America. The names of these countries have been incorporated into the shirt design representing the diversity that makes up this community.
