LEAD COACHES

Portland, OR

Coaching youth basketball became a passion for Coach Matt shortly after graduating from the University of Redlands, where he was a 4-year starter and a 3-year captain of the men's basketball team. Matt attributes much of his basketball success to his years spent under the tutelage of Coach Jim Ducey at Redlands, and the many other coaches he had throughout his career. Matt began coaching for the Boys and Girls Clubs as a volunteer and has head coached at every youth level. In addition to his role with Rip City Academy, he is a coach in the LOYTBA-Lakeridge youth basketball program in Lake Oswego, and a Double-Goal Coach through the Positive Coaching Alliance. He firmly believes in developing fundamental basketball skills that also make a meaningful impact on the lives of the youth players he instructs.

As a player, he has played AAU and 6A Varsity basketball at Wilson high school, where he graduated from in 2015. Now as a youth coach for the Blazers, as well as a coach at Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum’s summer youth camps and at the Beaverton Hoop YMCA, Coach Allen loves to use the game of basketball as a platform for teaching lessons and values that are much greater than basketball.
