Detroit Pistons sign free agent Joe Johnson

Seven-time NBA All-Star won Big3 MVP after dominant summer campaign

Joe Johnson last played in the NBA for the Houston Rockets during the 2017-18 season.

DETROIT, Mich. -- The Detroit Pistons announced today that the team has signed free agent guard/forward Joe Johnson. Per team policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.

 
Johnson, 6-7, 240, is a 17-year NBA veteran with career averages of 16.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 3.9 assists and 34.7 minutes in 1,276 NBA games.  Drafted 10th overall in the 2001 NBA Draft by the Boston Celtics, Johnson averaged 20-plus points in five straight seasons (2005-10) as a member of the Atlanta Hawks.  He’s also averaged double-digit scoring in 15 of his 17 seasons.   A seven-time NBA All-Star, Johnson has averaged 15.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 3.1 assists in 120 career postseason games.  In addition to the Celtics and Hawks, he’s also played for the Phoenix Suns, Brooklyn Nets, Miami Heat, Utah Jazz and Houston Rockets.

Most recently, Johnson played in the 2019 Big3 where he led the league in scoring (21.9 ppg) and assists (3.9 apg) and was named MVP.  He also led his team, the Triplets, to the Big3 title and made the game-winning 3-pointer in the championship game.

A native of Little Rock, AR, Johnson played collegiately at the University of Arkansas for two seasons and averaged 15.0 points, 6.1 rebounds and 2.4 assists in 53 games for the Razorbacks.
