LAS VEGAS -- Former Xavier standout Trevon Blueitt scored 24 points to lead the New Orleans Pelicans past the Toronto Raptors, 90-77, in the Las Vegas Summer League at Cox Pavilion on Friday.
The Pelicans got hot late in the first quarter and never looked back, immediately jumping out to an enormous lead. A 27-12 second quarter all but sealed the game for New Orleans, which led by as much as 25 points en route to a commanding win.
Blueitt’s impressive scoring total came in just 19 minutes of play off the bench. New Orleans also saw big production from center Cheick Diallo, who scored 13 points and turned in a team-high 10 rebounds. Second-year guard Frank Jackson turned his ankle and left the game but not before adding 13 points of his own.
As a team, Toronto shot just 32.9 percent from the field and 23.5 percent from three. The cold shooting night was felt across the roster, as only two players scored in double digits. Undrafted rookie Rawle Alkins and Alfonzo McKinnie shared the team lead with 12 points apiece.
