HEAT Academy End of Year Celebration 2018

The Miami HEAT hosted an end-of-year celebration for 372 HEAT Academy students at AmericanAirlines Arena on Tuesday, May 15th. The afternoon was a carnival-style event with food, fun, and excitement for students, guests and HEAT Academy Volunteers. During the festivities, Carnival Corporation & plc and Carnival Foundation presented a check in the amount of $170,000 to the Florida Prepaid College Foundation for scholarships benefiting HEAT Academy students. Fifteen fifth-grade HEAT Academy students who go on to participate in the Carnival Scholarship and Mentoring program will become eligible for a scholarship, which matures in 2025, the fifth grade class’ expected graduating year. This marks the 16th consecutive year that Carnival has funded the scholarships, and during this time the company has purchased 240 scholarships with a total value of more than $3.5 million. HEAT Announce 2018 Scholarship Recipients

Miami-based Carnival, the Miami HEAT, and Florida Prepaid College Foundation resented local high school students with four-year college scholarships. Purchased by Carnival Foundation – the charitable arm of the Carnival Corporation, the scholarships were presented to former students of the HEAT Academy, an after school enrichment program for at-risk youth, who currently participate in an innovative workplace mentoring program sponsored by Carnival, the Miami HEAT and in partnership with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Miami. Recipients were selected based on academic performance, leadership skills, community involvement and interviews with representatives from the three participating organizations. Each student also received a personal laptop computer courtesy of Carnival Foundation, Dell and Microsoft as well as gift cards from Perry Ellis and Peony to outfit any future business endeavors in these student’s lives. 18th HEAT Learn & Play Center

On March 20, 2018, The Miami HEAT celebrated the opening of its 18th HEAT Learn & Play Center at The South Dade YMCA Family Center in Miami. The new HEAT Learn & Play Center, refurbished in partnership with presenting sponsor and longtime HEAT community partner Florida Blue, provides youth with a safe place to play and resources to help them explore their academic interests. 9th Annual Miami HEAT Black History Month Challenge

Students from Miami Central Senior High School (Miami-Dade) and Dillard High School (Broward) participated in the 9th Annual Miami HEAT Black History Month Challenge presented by PepsiCo, held at the AmericanAirlines Arena. The Miami HEAT Black History Month Challenge is a game show-style competition where one team from each participating school test their knowledge of African-American history, with the winning school walking away with a $4,000 grant and a HEAT prize pack. HEAT Community Re-HEAT

The 2017-18 season is the 10th year of the Re-HEAT Program in which unserved food from all Miami HEAT home games is redistributed to local homeless assistance programs. Through the assistance of presenting partner Florida Blue, alongside supporting partner Levy Cares, over 44,000 pounds of food have been distributed to Re-HEAT beneficiaries, the Miami Rescue Mission and Chapman Partnership. HEAT Legend Glen Rice joined HEAT Dancers as well as HEAT Mascot, Burnie, and representatives from presenting sponsor, Florida Blue, and supporting sponsor, Levy Cares, as they visited the Chapman Partnership facility to deliver food and serve meals to its 500+ residents. Battier, Rice & HEAT Staffers Assist in Lotus Village Move-In

With the holiday season upon us, the Miami HEAT continue to spread joy throughout the community. Earlier today, HEAT Legends, Shane Battier and Glen Rice, and staffers teamed up to assist in part of a weeklong effort of moving Lotus House, a homeless shelter for women and youth, into their newly constructed, 5-story Lotus Village, giving their residents a home for the holidays. Veterans Day Home Renovation

In honor of Veterans Day, the Miami HEAT, including HEAT legends Alonzo Mourning and Glen Rice, worked alongside members of the U.S. Armed Forces, Rebuilding Together Miami-Dade, Inc. and Ultimate Software staffers to help renovate the homes of two local veterans in Miami-Dade County whose homes suffered damage from Hurricane Irma. HEAT Learn to Swim: A.D. Barnes Park Pool Recap

The Miami HEAT teamed up with Florida Blue, FOX Sports Sun and the American Red Cross by surprising some young swimmers during their swimming. As part of the HEAT Learn to Swim community water safety campaign, HEAT Player Wayne Ellington made this surprise visit. Ellington was joined by HEAT P.A. HEAT / Pulse Day of Rememberance - Wonder Woman Private Screening with Lotus House

June 12th served as a day of remembrance for the 49 innocent victims who lost their lives at Pulse Nightclub in Orlando in the largest mass shooting in U.S. history. June also serves as LGBTQ Pride Month. The HEAT Group with one of the most diverse staffs in the industry and a culture which emphasizes inclusion, hosted guests from the Lotus House, an organization dedicated to improving the lives of homeless women, youth and children, for an excursion to Cinépolis Coconut Grove for a private screening of Wonder Woman. Wonder Woman is an iconic DC Comics character and a symbol of female empowerment. The 35 guests from the Lotus House who attended the event are part of the Rainbow Lotus group which identify as LGBTQ or allies of the community.

HEAT donate $10,000 to LA LIGA CONTRA EL CÁNCER/ THE LEAGUE AGAINST CANCER as part of $50,000 commitment

The Miami HEAT Charitable Fund announced today that they donated $10,000 to La Liga Contra el Cáncer / The League Against Cancer during Saturday’s 42nd Anniversary Telethon. This is the third of five $10,000 donations the Miami HEAT Charitable Fund will make over a five-year period. The League Against Cancer is a non-profit organization providing free medical care to cancer patients who do not have financial resources or health insurance. Read Full Story
