Things to Know

A two-way force with a lethal arsenal.

An impact player at both ends, Kawhi Leonard has two NBA championships, one each with the San Antonio Spurs and Toronto Raptors, and won Finals MVP both times. He is perhaps the best two-way player of his generation and one of the best such players in NBA history.

Career
After his rookie season where he averaged 7.9 points per game, Leonard increased his scoring average in each of his next seven seasons, peaking at 27.1 ppg in 2019-20. He did so by perfecting the mid-range jumper and improving his range at the 3-point stripe (career 38.4% shooter).

Since the 2013-14 season, Leonard has established himself as an elite defender. He has made an All-Defensive Team every season except once since then, with the lone exception coming in 2017-18 (which he missed all but nine games of due to various injuries).

At 22 years old, Leonard became the second-youngest winner of the Finals MVP award (bested only by a 20-year-old Magic Johnson in the 1980 Finals). He accomplished the feat in 2014, when the Spurs eliminated the Heat in five games.

After being traded from San Antonio to Toronto in the summer of 2018, Leonard subsequently led the Raptors to their first NBA title in his only season with the team. He was named Finals MVP after averaging 28.5 ppg, 9.8 rpg, 4.2 apg and 2.0 spg while playing 40.5 mpg. In the Game 6 title-clincher, he finished with 22 points, six rebounds, three assists and two steals.

During the Raptors’ march to the 2019 NBA title, Leonard recorded the first Game 7 buzzer-beater in NBA history. He did so when he sank a dramatic 3-pointer from the right corner in the 2019 Eastern Conference semifinals against the Philadelphia 76ers. Overall, he finished with 41 points in that game -- four shy of his playoff-record 45 points scored in Game 1 of the same series.

Leonard was named the first winner of the renamed Kobe Bryant All-Star Game MVP award in 2020 with the LA Clippers. Leonard finished with 30 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals as Team LeBron edged Team Giannis 157-155.
