WJFK 106.7 The Fan and WFED 1500 to Broadcast Wizards and Capitals Games

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals have reached a multiyear agreement that will put the broadcasts of their games on CBS Radio (WJFK 106.7 The Fan) and Hubbard Radio (WFED 1500), Monumental Sports & Entertainment announced today. The two stations will carry Wizards and Capitals games plus pre- and postgame shows on two of the regions strongest radio signals.

Dave Johnson, entering his 16th year as the Wizards play-by-play voice, will be joined by analyst Glenn Consor, who begins his sixth season. The tandem will anchor the pregame show and Consor host the postgame show. In addition to calling the game, both broadcasters will engage fans during in-game chats on WashingtonWizards.com and via Twitter (@WashWizards, @DJohnsonWTOP, @GCtalks).

At the conclusion of the current NHL work stoppage, the Capitals will join the Wizards on 106.7 The FAN and 1500 AM with both stations carrying NHL hockey as well as NBA basketball.

Capitals radio play-by-play announcer John Walton (@WaltonCaps) will return for his second season of calling the action, while former Capital Ken Sabourin enters his 10th season of providing analysis for all Capitals home games. Mike Vogel (@VogsCaps), WashingtonCaps.com senior editor, will join Walton as an intermission analyst and contribute to the pregame show.

“Both the Capitals and Wizards have enjoyed great relationships with WJFK and WFED,” said Kurt Kehl, Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s senior vice president of corporate communications. “It seemed natural for us to collaborate with CBS Radio and Hubbard Radio and to continue to foster what has been a great partnership for both teams and bring NBA and NHL play-by-play to as many fans as possible in the Washington, D.C., market.”

In addition to game broadcasts there also will be a weekly Saturday show on WFED 1500 from 6-7 p.m. that will highlight all of Monumental Sports & Entertainment’s teams and venues – the Wizards, Capitals, Mystics and Verizon Center as well as activities at George Mason University’s Patriot Center and Kettler Capitals Iceplex. Johnson along with Walton and studio host Ben Raby will produce the show, which will include a combination of highlights, interviews and previews of upcoming games and events.

“We're very excited to continue our Wizards partnership with Monumental Sports & Entertainment and to add the Washington Capitals to 106.7 The Fan's play by play roster,” said Chris Kinard, program director for 106.7 The Fan. “As the home of three of Washington's professional sports franchises, fans can now tune into 106.7 almost every night of the year to hear their favorite team on a crystal clear FM signal.

“We're thrilled to continue our Capitals coverage and equally excited to further our partnership with Monumental Sports by adding the Wizards to our sports programming lineup,” said Joel Oxley, Hubbard Radio senior vice president and market manager. “We look forward to carrying play-by-play action for basketball and hockey fans alike for years to come.”

The Wizards and Capitals will partner with 106.7 The Fan, WFED and WTOP 103.5 FM, WFED’s sister station, for a variety of promotional, charitable and community outreach initiatives. All three stations have been key media partners in recent years and have a vital impact in connecting with local sports fans and the general news audience.
