GAME
NOTES Tonight’s game is the first of four meetings between the Washington Wizards and Indiana Pacers. The
Pacers won last season’s series, 2-1.
Last contest...The Wizards were defeated, 93-89, by the Miami Heat on November 4th at Verizon Center...
Washington battled back from a 19-point first half deficit to tie the game at 66-66 at the end of three
quarters....Wade finished with 40 points, a season-high for a Wizards’ opponent this season...Gilbert
Arenas led Washington with 32 points, his second game of 30 or more points this season...Brendan
Haywood (16 points, 11 rebounds) and Caron Butler (13 points, 10 rebounds) each posted their first
double-doubles of the season in the loss.
With nine points in tonight’s contest at Indiana, Gilbert Arenas will reach the 10,000 point mark for his
career. Arenas is also 17 points shy of reaching 8,000 points as a Wizard.
Arenas last game of 30 or more points on the road came in Indiana on October 31, 2007. Arenas
scored 34 points for Washington in the 2007-08 season opener.
Caron Butler averaged 30.7 points and 11.3 rebounds in three games against the Pacers. Butler
nailed a game winning jumper as time expired on February 8, 2009, in Washington’s 119-117 victory
over Indiana last season.
Randy Foye scored a career-high of 36 points versus Indiana last season on February 20, 2009 as a
member of the Timberwolves. In two games versus the Pacers last season, Foye averaged 27.5 points,
4.5 rebounds and 4.0 assists.
The Wizards are currently ranked in the top 10 in the NBA in three-point field goal percentage (.386,
10th) and defensive rebounding (32.2, 5th).
Washington-Indiana connections…Washington’s Antawn Jamison and Gilbert Arenas were teammates
with Indiana’s Mike Dunleavy and Troy Murphy in Golden State…Arenas and Murphy were part of the
same Warriors draft class in 2001…Pacers center Roy Hibbert attended DC’s Georgetown University…
Antawn Jamison and Pacers forward Tyler Hansbrough are two of four former North Carolina Tar Heel
players to win the Naismith Award as most outstanding college basketball player of the year, the others
being Phil Ford and Michael Jordan…Pacers guard Travis Dierner and Wizards guard DeShawn Stevenson
were teammates on the 2005-06 Orlando Magic... Pacers assistant coach Frank Vogel spent the 2006-07 season
as an advance scout for the Wizards…Wizards assistant coach Randy Wittman is a native of Indianapolis
and attended Indiana University and was a member of the Hoosiers 1981 National Championship
