Last contest...The Washington Wizards opened their home slate with a 123-104 victory over the New
Jersey Nets on Halloween night...Gilbert Arenas led all scorers with 32 points, which marked his first
game of 30 or more points since November 14, 2007 (30 pts vs. IND)...Andray Blatche scored a careerhigh
30 points (15-of-18 from the field) in 27:40 minutes of play off of the bench...Washington shot 61.5
percent from the field on their way to 123 points, which is the most points scored at Verizon Center by
the Wizards since November 25, 2008, when the team scored 124 points in a win over Golden State.
Washington enters tonight’s game with a 2-1 record this season. With a win against the Cavs, Washington
would win it’s third game of the season. Last season, the Wizards didn’t get their third in until
December 2nd in the 15th game of the season.
Washington’s 61.5 percent shooting performance from the field in their last game marks the team’s
highest shooting effort since December 18, 2002, when the Wizards shot 61.8 percent from the field in a
118-100 win over the Memphis Grizzlies.
The Wizards are currently shooting 50.6 percent from the field through the first three games of the season.
This represents the highest the Wizards have shot from the field through the first three games of
the season since the 1978-79 season. In that year, the Washington Bullets shot 51.3 percent from the
field in their first three games.
Andray Blatche currently is 2nd in the NBA in scoring off of the bench at 21.0 points per game.
Mike Miller has posted two straight games of 10 or more rebounds. The last time he posted three
games of ten or more was during the 2007-08 season (3/15/08; 13 rebounds @ Golden State, 3/17/08;
13 rebounds vs. Charlotte Bobcats, 3/19/08: 10 rebounds @ Minnesota), as a member of the Memphis
Grizzlies.
Gilbert Arenas is averaging 22.3 points and 6.0 rebounds in 17 career games versus Cleveland.
Washington-Cleveland connections...Brendan Haywood was originally drafted by Cleveland with the
20th overall pick in 2001…Cavaliers Head Coach Mike Brown spent three years in Washington beginning
in 1997; two years as an assistant under Bernie Bickerstaff, and one year as a pro scout...Cavs
guard Delonte West attended DC’s Eleanor Roosevelt HS...Caron Butler and Cleveland’s Shaquille
O’Neal were part of the Lakers-Heat trade that sent O’Neal to Miami and made Butler a Laker… |
