Wizards Visit Employees of Southwest Airlines

On April 7, the Washington Wizards' Andray Blatche and Dominic McGuire along with members from the Wizards Dance Team and G-Wiz visited employees from Southwest Airlines. The event allowed Wizards' players the chance to visit with, learn from, take pictures and sign autographs with many of the Southwest employees and customers at Baltimore Washington International Airport.

"Today was a lot of fun. It was great to interact with the employees from Southwest," said McGuire. "It always makes you feel good when you know you have brightened someone else's day."

Throughout the afternoon, the players had the chance to go behind-the-scenes of the Southwest Airlines operation, seeing everything from where the cargo orders take place to the holding area for all drinks and snacks that are served on the flights. The event marked the third straight year where member from the Wizards' franchise have visited Southwest Airlines' employees.

"It's great for Southwest to be involved in the community and to be partnered with the Wizards who are the passion point in the Metropolitan D.C. area," said Marina Hardy, marketing manager for Southwest Airlines. "Our employees and customers are big fans and supporters of the Wizards. A day like this where they can interact with the players makes for a special day and a very special experience."

This was the third such experience for the Wizards' Andray Blatche who has participated in the event the previous two seasons. After working on the runway last year, Blatche was able to have more interaction with the patrons this time around, helping several customers check-in for their flight.

"This is one of my favorite events," said Blatche. "I've done this all three years since I have been with the Wizards. Every year it gets better and better and I just love being able to put smiles on people's faces by talking with them or just taking a picture with them."

Southwest Airlines is the official airline of the Washington Wizards. Southwest currently operates 170 daily nonstop departures to 39 cities from Baltimore/Washington International Airport with additional direct and connecting service to 24 cities. Baltimore/Washington International Airport is Southwest’s fourth busiest airport in terms of daily departures.
