Wizards to Hold Training Camp at Patriot Center
The Washington Wizards announced today that the team will hold their 2011 training camp at the Patriot Center on the campus of George Mason University in Fairfax, VA. Training camp will begin with a “Midnight Tip-Off” practice on Sept. 28 and conclude with a FanFest and open scrimmage on Oct. 3.
“Our relationship with George Mason University and the Patriot Center allows us to conduct a locally based training camp at an outstanding facility located in the greater D.C. area,” said Wizards Executive Vice President of Business Operations Greg Bibb. “We’re thrilled that our fans will be able to take part in the official start of the season and we’re looking forward to the opportunity to reach out to potential new fans in Northern Virginia.”
The Midnight Tip-Off practice will begin at 12:00 a.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 28, and will feature player introductions, an open practice, giveaways, ticket offers for regular season Wizards games and special incentives for George Mason students. Doors for the Midnight Tip-Off practice will open at 11:00 p.m. on Monday, Sept. 27. The FanFest will begin at 11:00 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 3, and will include family entertainment, drills and instruction for young fans and an open scrimmage that will tip off at 12:30 p.m. Both events will be open to the public and free of charge.
In addition to the public events, all Wizards season ticketholders will have the chance to attend an exclusive “Rookie Class” event featuring a private session with the Wizards’ rookie players on Wednesday, Sept. 29, following that evening’s practice. Earlier that morning, select area business leaders will be invited to meet with Wizards staff members as well as several players during a “Business-to-Business Breakfast” event prior to the morning practice sesssion. The Wizards will also reach out to the community in Northern Virginia by extending special invitations to Sunday’s FanFest to families involved with Shelter House, Inc.
The complete schedule for training camp (and the fan events surrounding training camp), media day and media information on covering training camp will be released at a later date.
