2006 Vegas Summer League: Wizards Results

The New York Knicks built up a 13-point first half lead and held on for a 75-67 victory over the Washington Wizards in the Toshiba Vegas Summer League. New York's advantage was greatly helped by outshooting Washington 60 percent (15-25 FG) to 31 percent (11-36 FG) through the first two quarters of play.
The game was separated by only two points after the first 10 minutes of play, but the Knicks' offense doubled up Washington 22-11 in the second quarter for a 41-28 cushion. New York added two more points to its lead after the third, but watched Washington break the 20-point mark for the only time in the fourth quarter.
New York was led offensively by Ime Udoke's 13 points (4-9 fG). Udoke was closely followed by 12 scored by David Lee and Brian Greene's 11.
Washington's Oleksiy Pecherov led all scorers with a 22-point (9-14 FG) outburst. Andray Blatche chipped in with 18 (6-10 FG, 5-6 FT), while Donell Taylor had 10.
For the game, the Knicks nailed 52.6% (30-57 FG) of their shots, while the Wizards connected only 38.2% (26-68 FG) of the time.
The Knicks finish summer league play with a 4-1 record. Lee averaged a team-high 15.2 points per game in the five-game span, while Channing Frye had 12.5 points per game (two games) and Nate Robinson averaged 12.2 points per game (five games).
The Wizards ended its play with a 0-5 record. Blatche poured in a team-high 16.0 points per game in the span, while Pecherov averaged 12.6 points per game.

The New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets came out of the half strong and cruised to a 70–58 win over the Washington Wizards in the nightcap of the Toshiba Vegas Summer League. The Hornets opened the half on a 35-19 run, thanks to six points from Brandon Bass and five from Kirk Snyder during the run.
Hilton Armstrong, the 12th player chosen in the 2006 draft, had seven points (2-5 FG, 3-3 FT) and five rebounds. Snyder finished with 10 points (3-6 FG, 5-6 FT) and six rebounds, while Brandon Bass had 11 points (3-6 FG, 5-6 FT) and seven rebounds in the win.
Andray Blatche led the Wizards in scoring with 15 points (6-14 FG) and five rebounds, while rookie Oleksiy Pecherov had nine points (4-9 FG).
A Pierre Wooten buzzer beat at the end of the half, evened the score at 31. Armstrong led the Hornets in scoring at the break with seven points and four rebounds. Taylor led the Wizards in scoring, with six points and six rebounds.
For the half, New Orleans/Oklahoma City shot 34 percent (11-32 FG), while Washington shot 39 percent (12-31).
The Hornets finished the game shooting 40 percent (27-67 FG), while the Wizards shot 35 percent (22-63 FG).
The Wizards take on the New York Knicks on Thursday at 4 p.m (ET).

The game between the Portland Trail Blazers and the Washington Wizards began as a blowout, but wound up being decided in the final minute of play. The Wizards fought back and evened the score at 68-68 with 55 seconds remaining in the game, but the Trail Blazers scored four unanswered points down the stretch to take the contest 72-68.
With the score tied up with 40 seconds to play Portland's Brandon Roy was fouled and was sent to the free throw line. Roy connected on both attempts to push the Trail Blazers to a 70-68 advantage. LaMarcus Aldridge added an insurance bucket with seven-seconds remaining to cap the scoring at 72-68.
Portland jumped out to a 23-9 lead midway through the first quarter and closed out the first half with a 46-34 lead. The Trail Blazers made 66.7% (16-24 FG) of their shots to take a 12-point advantage at the half, while the Wizards shot 43.3%.
Heading into the final stanza the Wizards trailed 58-45, but rallied to even the game up at 68-68 due to help from a 23-point fourth quarter outburst.
Portland was led by four players in double-digits with Martell Webster leading the way with 19 points (7-12 FG). Roy followed closely behind with his 18 points. Travis Outlaw's 13 and Aldridge's 12 rounded out the main scorers.
Oleksiy Pecherov fell one rebound shy of collected the only double-double in the game. Pecherov chipped in 13 points (3-12 FG, 6-6 FT) and collected nine rebounds in a losing effort. Peter John Ramos led the Wizards in scoring with 14 points (5-6 FG).
The Wizards return to action Tuesday evening in the Cox Pavilion when they take on the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets at 8 p.m., while Portland opens Wednesday's action against Phoenix at 1 p.m.

The game between the Washington Wizards and the Detroit Pistons was a tale of two halves. Washington held a five-point edge (36-31) through the first two quarters, but watched Detroit get the hot hand in the second half to take the game, 80-67.
Both team's shot above 40% in the first half, but the Pistons took control of the game with its 48.7% shooting in the second. Washington's offensive efforts dropped off considerably in the second stanza with a 29.0% output. For the game, Detroit shot 45.1% (32-71 FG), while Washington only hit 37.7% (23-61 FG) of its shots.
Detroit was led by four players in double-digits with Alex Acker's 17 points (7-15 FG) leading the way. Jason Maxiell contributed 15 points (5-12 FG), while Amir Johnson and Nik Caner Medley dropped 10 apiece.
Andray Blanche and Donell Taylor scored 39 of Washington's 67 points. Blanche topped all scorers with 20 points (8-17 FG). Taylor pitched in 19 (4-14 FG), as he went 10-10 at the free throw line in the second half.
Washington and Detroit return to action at the Cox Pavilion on Monday with back-to-back games. The Wizards play at 4 p.m. against the Portland Trail Blazers, while the Pistons follow immediately with a contest against the Phoenix Suns at 6 p.m.

First overall pick Andrea Bargnani wasted no time getting into the scoring column in his Raptor debut. On the Raptors first possession, Bargnani drove the lane, was fouled and converted two free throws. Bargnani went on to score 20 points (7-11 FG), including seven of the first nine Toronto points helping propel the Raptors to a 93-85 win over the Washington Wizards in the nightcap of the first day of action at the Toshiba Vegas Summer League.
Bargnani had 16 points at the half on five of eight shooting in 16 minutes of action, helping the Raptors to a 52-39 lead at the break.
Joey Graham led the Raptors in scoring with 22 points (7-12 FG), while Andre Barrett chipped in 13 points (5-10 FG) and five assists.
Cornellius McFadgon led the Wizards in scoring with 17 points (5-8 FG), while Andray Blatche had a double-double with 15 points (6-15 FG) and 12 rebounds. Rookie Oleksiy Pecherov added 15 points (6-11 FG) and eight rebounds.
Toronto finished the game shooting 48 percent (31-64 FG), while Washington shot 50 percent (34-68 FG).
Toronto shot 52 percent (17-33 FG) in the first half, while Washington shot 50 percent (16-32 FG). McFadgon led the Wizards in scoring at the half with seven points (2-3 FG).
The Raptors next opponent is the Sacramento Kings on Sunday at 3 p.m., while the Wizards battle the Detroit Pistons tomorrow at 2 p.m.
