Wizards To Host Private Intra-Squad Scrimmage For Area Rescue and Assistance Force

Oct. 4, 2001 WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Washington Wizards will hold a private intra-squad scrimmage at MCI Center on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 7 p.m. for area police, fire, search and rescue, military and medical employees. The event is being held exclusively for the rescue and assistance force in and around the Washington, D.C. community who continue to assist and protect citizens on a daily basis following the tragic events of Sept. 11. The event is co-sponsored by Comcast SportsNet.
Beginning Oct. 4, civil servants including police, fire, search and rescue, military and medical employees may show a valid employee ID at the MCI Center box office or at any TicketMaster Outlet and receive tickets to the event. There is a $2 service charge per ticket at all outlet and a limit of 20 tickets per person.
"This scrimmage is our way of saying thank you to all those helped the country in our time of need. We as an organization would like to acknowledge the local rescue efforts and let them know that we appreciate them and all of their hard efforts," said Abe Pollin, chairman of Washington Sports and Entertainment. "They can come out to MCI Center with their family and friends and enjoy the game."
American flags will be distributed to the first 10,000 patrons in the arena. Spirit of America will be performing pre-scrimmage and singing the National Anthem, and the U.S. Fife and Drum Corp will be performing also. MCI Center will be decorated with a red, white and blue decor, complete with balloons.
The Wizards will begin the 2001-02 season on Tuesday, Oct. 30, when they travel to New York to take on the Knicks. On Saturday, Nov. 3, the Wizards return to MCI Center to host the Philadelphia 76ers at 7 p.m. in the season home opener.
