Washington Wizards President of Basketball Operations Ernie Grunfeld announced today that the team has re-signed forward Michael Ruffin. Per team policy, terms of the deal were not disclosed.

“Michael is the type of player that brings toughness and maturity to our team,” said Grunfeld. “He does a lot of things that don’t show up in the box score, but are essential to our team’s success.”

“We are pleased to have Michael Ruffin back with us,” Head Coach Eddie Jordan said. “Michael provides us with a great deal of energy and intensity off our bench.”

Last season Ruffin appeared in a career-best 79 games for the Wizards and averaged 4.2 rebounds and 1.4 points per game as the Wizards clinch their first playoff berth since the 1996-97 season. In 2004-05, Ruffin was one of only 10 players in the NBA to grab at least 10 offensive rebounds in a single game when he pulled down a career-high 11 offensive rebounds at Golden State (12/20). Entering his sixth NBA season, Ruffin has averaged 2.0 points and 4.4 rebounds per game in his career.
