GAME
NOTES This game marks the second of four meetings between the Wizards and Bobcats this season. Earlier
this season, on November 28th in DC, the Bobcats bested the Wizards, 92-76. Last season, the Bobcats
beat the Wizards in three of four games, including both games here in Charlotte.
In Washington’s last game...After falling behind by as many as 21-points in the first half, including a
32-13 deficit after the first quarter of play, the Wizards rallied to down the Orlando Magic in a comeback
effort, 92-91. Behind 19 third quarter points from Randy Foye, a season-high for points in a quarter
among the Wizards this season, Washington enjoyed a 39-17 edge in the third stanza. Foye finished
with 22 points, seven rebounds and a team-high seven assists for Washington, while Caron Butler’s 31
points—the final two of which came on a game-winning baseline jumper with 0.5 seconds remaining—
paced the Wizards. Brendan Haywood led Washington on the glass with 10 boards.
Washington’s starting line-up of Randy Foye, Mike Miller, Caron Butler, Antawn Jamison and Brendan
Haywood will make their team-high eighth start of the season together as a unit tonight. This starting
line-up is also Washington’s winningest line-up of the season (four wins) and most successful by percentage
(4-3, .571).
The Wizards are 12-10 when scoring 100+ points in a game this season, and are also 12-10 when the
opposition scores less than 100. Conversely, the Wizards are 5-22 when they fail to score at least 100
points, and are 5-22 the opposition reaches triple digits on the scoreboard.
The key to Washington’s success this season is found within the Wizards’ marksmanship from the
floor. Washington is 14-7 (.667) when shooting at a higher field goal percentage than the opposition
this season, while Wizards’ foes are 3-25 (.107) when they out-shoot Washington.
Having missed significant time due to injury this season, Wizards guard Mike Miller doesn’t yet qualify
among league leaders in three-point shooting percentage. However, as league minimums require 34
three-pointers made through 50 games to qualify, with two three-pointers tonight Miller will qualify
among the NBA’s best. Currently shooting .516 (32-62) from three-point range, Miller would currently
be the NBA’s top three-point marksman if he had enough three-pointers to qualify.
Washington-Charlotte connections...Washington and Charlotte sport a combined three former North
Carolina Tar Heels — Brendan Haywood, Antawn Jamison and Raymond Felton. |
