NOTES
FLIP-ING THE SCRIPT: On April 22, 2009, Flip Saunders became the 22nd head coach in Wizards’
history. Saunders brings an impressive resume to Washington and is tasked with leading the Wizards
back to the elite in the East. In 13 years as a head coach in the NBA, Saunders has amassed a record
of 587-396, and his .597 winning percentage is currently seventh among active head coaches. Saunders
has compiled seven 50-win seasons, has taken his teams to the playoffs in 11 out of 13 seasons
and has advanced to the Conference Finals four times.
MODEL OF CONSISTENCY: Antawn Jamison has been a steady force for the Wizards in the scoring
column and in the rebounding department. Last season, Jamison averaged 22.2 points per game, his
highest scoring average since joining Washington in 2004, to go along with 8.9 rebounds per game.
Over the past two seasons, Jamison has averaged 21.8 points and 9.5 rebounds and has posted 82
doubles (44; 07-08, 36; 08-09), which ranks seventh among the league leaders in that category.
CARON IS CLIMBING: The 2008-09 season marked a career year for Caron Butler, who averaged a
career-high 20.8 points per game. The two-time All-Star joined LeBron James for the second consecutive
season as the only two players in the NBA to average 20+ points, 6+ rebounds and 4+ assists per
game. Butler has also increased his scoring average in each of the past five seasons.
AGENT ZERO BACK ON THE CASE: After missing significant action during the last two seasons, Gilbert
Arenas is healthy and ready to return to All-NBA status. Playing in two games last season, the eight
year pro posted two double-doubles and tallied a 20-to-1 turnover ratio. With this feat, Arenas became
the first player since turnovers became an official stat in 1977-78 to record 20 assists and only one turnover
in his first two games of the season. Arenas enters the 2009-10 season just 147 points shy of the
10,000 point plateau. In 433 career games, the three-time All-Star, is averaging 22.8 points, 5.5 assists
and 4.2 rebounds per game.
MORE FIREPOWER: On June 25, 2009, the Wizards acquired guard/forward Mike Miller and guard
Randy Foye from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Etan Thomas, Darius Songaila, Oleksiy
Pecherov and the fifth pick in the 2009 NBA Draft. With this trade, Washington acquired one of the top
three-point shooters in the NBA in Miller, and a versatile guard entering his fourth season, in Foye, who
has steadily improved his production in each of his first three seasons in the league.
