USA Basketball announced today that Wizards center/forward JaVale McGee has been added to the roster for the USA Basketball Men’s National Team mini-camp that will take place July 23-25 in Las Vegas.
“I am so proud to participate in the USA Basketball mini-camp alongside some of the best up-and-coming players in the league,” said McGee. “It’s a great opportunity and a great incentive for me to continue to improve my game.”
McGee averaged 6.5 points, 3.9 rebounds and 1.0 blocks per game in 75 games during his rookie campaign for Washington. Recently in four games played in the 2009 NBA Summer League, McGee averaged 17.3 points, 6.3 rebounds and a league-leading 4.0 blocks per game. The seven-footer capped off league play with a 31-point, eight-rebound effort in the Wizards’ 89-84 victory over the New York Knicks summer league team on July 19.
“This is an honor for a young player like JaVale to be selected by USA Basketball,” said Wizards President Ernie Grunfeld. “He has shown a steady improvement, and participating in this mini-camp will be a great way for him to continue that growth.”
The USA Basketball Men’s National Team mini-camp will feature practices on July 23 and July 24 at Valley High School, and the mini-camp will conclude with the USA Basketball Showcase, a Blue-White intra-squad game, on Saturday, July 25 at the Thomas & Mack Center on the campus of UNLV.
