Antawn Jamison Quotes on Being Named to the All-Star Team

On being named to the All-Star team:
“I am proud to be an All-Star. It is a special honor for me to be recognized by the Eastern Conference coaches. It is a good feeling and a moment that I will always cherish. It also really says a lot for what we have accomplished as a team this season.”

On how this compares to his first All-Star selection:
“It’s special. I was named once before and I know how proud my family and friends were. It is special for me because of all the hard work and dedication that I put into what I do. Not having made it the last couple of years, I did not know if the opportunity was going to present itself again. I focused on the team doing well and sacrificing for the sake of the team. The most important thing was getting wins. To get the recognition for thinking that way first and thinking of others is special. I always said that if you think about the team first, then all of the individual accolades will come second.”

More on being an All-Star:
“You always think there are going to be many more to come, but not too many people get the opportunity to go once and especially not twice. To have that opportunity is a good feeling. I haven’t stopped smiling yet, so hopefully we can get back to business tomorrow, but when the weekend comes I will certainly enjoy it with my family and friends.”

On being selected by the coaches’ vote:
“I always think that the coaches’ selection is a little bit more meaningful. To get selected among your peers, by guys who know everything about the Xs and Os and are trying to find a way to win against you really…that really says a lot. It says that they respect what you are doing and they understand what you have accomplished.”

On Caron Butler being an All-Star as well:
“Just to make the team says a lot, but to have a teammate there with you, it really says a lot about the type of team you have and the type of guys that you are surrounded by. Not too many teams have more than one representative and for the last three out of four years we have had two guys representing our team. It says a lot about the type of talent that we have on this team and the type of character that we have as well.”

On experiencing All-Star weekend with a teammate:
“To enjoy it with Gilbert the first time and now to go through the same experience with Caron is definitely special. Those are the moments that you cherish because every day me, Caron and Gilbert are going through the same thing and are trying to accomplish the same things.”

On enjoying All-Star weekend with his family:
“These are the situations and the moments that you want the ones you are close with, the ones you cherish, and the ones who have been there with you from the get-go to enjoy with you. It’s going to be fun. I am going to really enjoy this one, and I am going to sit back and soak it all in.”

On Mr. and Mrs. Pollin:
“Without them, I would never have been in these situations. To have an owner like Mr. Pollin, who cares so much about his players is special. He has been in my corner from day one and he has been very supportive of me. You have to love an owner who cares more about his players and the way they behave off the court than the way they are performing on the court.”

On the Wizards organization:
“I am thankful for Mr. Pollin, Mr. Grunfeld, my coaches, teammates and everyone who brought me to the organization and thought that I would be a perfect fit for what they are trying to do. For them to give me the leadership role from day one, to trust me to do the right things, make the right decisions and go out there and lead by example; those are the type of people that you love playing for. They are going to do everything for you are you want to try to do everything for them.”

On the coaching staff:
“I have learned so much from the coaching staff. Coach Jordan has done a great job as far as improving my play on the court, my understanding of the game and what it takes to be a professional. You hear the phrase “player’s coach”, and he truly is one. He makes it an enjoyment to come in night in and night out, everyday and practice and give 110 percent.”

On his teammates:
“There are a lot of guys on this team who deserve more shots and more minutes, but just like myself and Caron these guys sacrifice for the sake of the team. Without those guys sacrificing, pulling for me and making sure we are doing everything possible to win, moments like this don’t occur at all.”
