Washington Wizards center Calvin Booth, guard Roger Mason and Assistant Director of Player Personnel Tim Connelly participated in the Basketball Ireland Federation Summer Jam in Dublin, Ireland from August 17-21. The Wizards’ trio also traveled to Belfast to participate in a basketball conference.

The Summer Jam session, attended by 200 youth who ranged from the ages of 6-17, focused on educating youngsters about the fundamentals of basketball and the importance of cultural diversity in sports.

Connelly, who is of Irish-American descent, helped organize the visit after learning about the unique program from Matthew Robinson, an Associate Professor & Director of Sports Management Program at the University of Delaware.

“It was great to see the passion and the excitement they have for the sport of basketball in Ireland,” Connelly said.

The Wizards’ brass was also extended an invitation to attend a reception at the home of United States Ambassador Thomas Foley.

“It was a tremendous experience,” Booth said. “I enjoyed visiting the country, working with the kids and coaches at the clinic and learning more about their culture.”
