March 10th Game Recap: Wizards vs. Blazers

Blazers Take Down Wizards

After beating the Blazers at their place one month ago, the Wizards were unable to complete the season sweep as they fell, 110-99, on Saturday night at Verizon Center.

The Wizards played much of the game down anywhere between two and six points, but they could not make the big run needed to get over the hump, and ultimately did not make enough plays to win the game.

John Wall bounced back tonight leading the team with 25 points and eight assists.

JaVale McGee added 15, Chris Singleton had 12, and Nick Young dropped in 10 points off the bench.

Trevor Booker led the team in rebounds with 10, to go along with his nine points.

The Wizards now fly to San Antonio where they will take on the Spurs on Monday night.

On the fourth quarter:
“We took bad shots. A lot of shot clock violations. We turned the ball over and they did a great job getting out in transition and running their offense. They converted down the stretch and we didn’t.”

On being down:
“We are used to being in that situation. We have been doing a great job of coming back, and sometimes getting the lead. We tied it up at one point, but turned the ball over, took a bad shot, or they got a three-point play, that really hurt us.”

WIZARDS FORWARD TREVOR BOOKER:

On the game:
“We didn’t play much defense tonight; maybe we were too focused on the offensive end. We wanted this one. We beat them at their place. We should have come back and beat them here. Unfortunately, we didn’t.”

On the game:
“We just couldn’t ever get into a situation where we could put stops together in this game. That’s what it really boiled down to. We know LaMarcus (Aldridge) is a tough cover, but we can’t let their guards then come in and do what they did. We couldn’t get stops together when we needed to at that critical point there in the fourth quarter.”

On the Wizards’ free throw shooting:
“They go 26 of 27, we go 16 of 25, add that in there and it makes it difficult to win the game. That hurts in a tight game.”

On the Wizards’ defense:
“We’ve got to become more committed defensively as a group. You have to be able in that fourth quarter to put two, three, four stops in a row together to get over that hump. I didn’t think we could do that tonight.”
