February 20th Game Recap: Wizards vs. Suns

Wizards Fall to Suns

The Wizards played right with the Suns in the first half, and even grabbed a 55-54 lead with 8:13 to play in the 3rd quarter, but a 31-5 run ultimately did the Wizards in and they fell 104-88 to the Suns on Monday night in Phoenix.

The Suns showed a 2-3 zone in the third quarter which threw the Wizards out of sync and seemed to disrupt the flow of their offense. What was a back-and-forth tight game quickly got out of hand in the 2nd half and the Wizards could not muster enough offense to get back into the game.

Jordan Crawford led the Wizards in scoring with 20 points off the bench.

Trevor Booker added 16 points and eight rebounds in 24 minutes of play.

John Wall had 10 points, six rebounds, and six assists in the loss.

The Wizards ended their five-game road trip with a 2-3 record and now return home to play the Sacramento Kings on Wednesday night at Verizon Center (7pm).

On 3rd quarter run

“We stopped playing as a team, we stopped moving the ball. We took tough shots. With a team that gets out and goes it gets the crowd into it they can spark a big lead and they did. We weren’t making shots and that made it tough in our zone and they made a lot of shots. We put ourselves in that situation and the only way to get out of it is to play as a team and try to get stops. We weren’t doing the little things to help us.”

On 3rd quarter run
“They got on a run and we made some bad decisions. They took advantage of it. You’ll have to decide if it was bad shot selection. We can make those shots. When you get down I think everybody tries to be the hero. I think that cost us. We’re always right there, up by one or down by one and something happens. We’ve got to find a way to stop teams from making a run. “
