GAME NOTES

  • Monday's game is the first of three meetings between the Washington Wizards and New Jersey Nets. The Wizards took last season’s series, 2-1.
  • Key Matchup: John Wall vs Deron Williams - Entering his sophomore season, John Wall is now healthy and has one of the quickest first steps in the league. He will look to use his speed to exploit Williams and lead the Wizards to an opening night victory. Deron Williams has been one of the most consistent point guards in the NBA throughout his seven year career and is the guy to watch this season for New Jersey. The point guard matchup should be fun to watch and is likely to be a major factor in the outcome of Monday's game.
  • X-Factor:The Wizards Nick Young missed a good portion of camp, but did drop in eight points off the bench for the Wizards in their second pre-season game in Philadelphia. Expect the team's leading scorer from last year to jump right back into the swing of things and play a key role in the home opener.
  • Injury Report: Wizards: Jan Vesely - Questionable (Hip), Nets: Brook Lopez - Out (Foot)
  • Washington’s all-time record in regular season home openers is 30-20.
  • Wizards head coach Flip Saunders holds a 11-3 (.786) career record on opening night. San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is the only active head coach with a better record than Saunders on opening night.
  • Entering the 2011-12 season, the Wizards are the fourth youngest team in the NBA with an average age of 25.5 years old.
  • John Wall averaged 15.5 points, 8.5 assists, 4.0 rebounds and 2.0 steals in two games versus the Nets last season.
  • JaVale McGee averaged 11.0 points, 6.3 rebounds and 3.3 blocks per game in three games versus the Nets. McGee shot .696 percent from the field in those three contests.
  • Rashard Lewis enters the 2011-12 season just 191 points shy of 15,000 career points.
  • Monday's game can be seen on CSN or heard on WJFK 106.7 The Fan at 7:00 pm.
