2008 Draft Central


The Washington Wizards selected JaVale McGee with the 18th overall pick in the NBA Draft. McGee is a 7-foot center from Nevada. As a sophomore he averaged 14.1 points, 7.3 rebounds and 2.8 blocks per game. In the 2nd round the Wizards took Bill Walker and traded him to Boston for cash considerations.

The Wizards held their 12th pre-draft workouts on Wednesday, June 25 at Verizon Center. The prospects in the workouts include Kansas forward Darrell Arthur and Serbian forward Novica Velickovic.

    Draft Trades
    Memphis acquires Marko Jaric, Antoine Walker, Greg Buckner and the draft rights to O.J. Mayo (3rd overall) from Minnesota in exchange for Mike Miller, Brian Cardinal, Jason Collins and the draft rights to Kevin Love (5th pick overall).

    In a three-team trade, Portland acquires the draft rights to Nicolas Batum (25th pick overall) from Houston; Houston acquires the draft rights to Donte Greene (28th pick overall) and second-round selection in 2009 from Memphis plus Joey Dorsey (33rd pick overall) from Portland; and Memphis acquires the draft rights to Darrell Arthur (27th pick overall) from Portland.

    In a three-team trade, Chicago acquires the draft rights to Omer Asik (36th pick overall) from Portland; Portland acquires a second-round pick in 2009 from Denver plus two future second-round picks from Chicago; and Denver acquires the draft rights to Sonny Weems (39th pick overall) from Chicago.

    Detroit acquires the draft rights to Walter Sharpe (32nd pick overall) and Trent Plaisted (46th pick overall) from Seattle in exchange for the draft rights to D.J. White (29th pick overall).

    Cleveland acquires the draft rights to Darnell Jackson (52nd pick overall) from Miami in exchange for a second-round selection in 2009.

    L.A. Clippers acquire the draft rights to Mike Taylor (55th pick overall) from Portland in exchange for a second-round selection in 2009.

    San Antonio acquires the draft rights to Malik Hairston (48th pick overall), a second-round pick in 2009 and cash considerations from Phoenix in exchange for the draft rights to Goran Dragic (45th pick overall).

    Boston acquires the draft rights to Bill Walker (47th pick overall) from Washington in exchange for cash considerations.

    Miami acquires the draft rights to Mario Chalmers (34th pick overall) from Minnesota in exchange for two future second-round picks and cash considerations.

    Portland acquires the draft rights to Darrell Arthur (27th pick overall) from New Orleans in exchange for cash considerations.

    Charlotte acquires Alexis Ajinca (20th pick overall) in the 2008 NBA Draft from Denver in exchange for a future protected first-round pick.
