The Washington Wizards released today their 2006-07 regular season schedule, including all 41-games on the home docket and the home opener at Verizon Center versus the Boston Celtics on Saturday, November 4th (7:00 pm ET).
The Wizards open the 2006-07 campaign in Cleveland on November 1st versus the Cavaliers in a nationally televised rematch on ESPN with their 2006 NBA Playoffs foe. After tipping-off the season in Cleveland, Eddie Jordan, Gilbert Arenas, Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler and company open their home slate against the Boston Celtics on November 4th.
Other highlights of the season's first month include Indiana's lone visit of the season on November 8th, Milwaukee's first trip to DC on November 10th, the first of two scheduled meetings at Verizon Center with Jason Kidd, Vince Carter and the New Jersey Nets on November 12th, LeBron James' return to the scene of the first round of the 2006 NBA Playoffs when the rival Cavs invade Washington on November 18th, and home games against the Detroit Pistons (November 25th) and Atlanta (November 28th) to conclude play in November.
"After another thrilling season last year, and back-to-back trips to the NBA Playoffs, the 2006-07 schedule will once again bring great NBA action to Washington," said Washington Sports & Entertainment President Susan O'Malley. "With the return of All-NBA performer Gilbert Arenas, as well as Antawn Jamison, Caron Butler and a burgeoning team under the direction of Eddie Jordan, there is a palpable sense of anticipation and excitement for the dawn of the new season.
"As the off-season offered time to build on the continuity and chemistry established over the last two seasons, and included the addition of international intrigue to the roster, the coming season will offer fans the opportunity to see the stars of the game every night, and to enjoy firsthand, thrilling Wizards basketball in one of the game's premier venues."
The action at Verizon Center in the month of December begins with the first visit of the season by a Western Conference opponent when Dirk Nowitzki and the Western Conference Champion Dallas Mavericks make their lone appearance of the regular season in DC on Monday, December 4th.
The action really heats up in the middle of December as Tracy McGrady and Yao Ming (Houston), Carmelo Anthony (Denver), Dwyane Wade and Shaquille O'Neal (Miami) lead their respective teams into the Nation's Capital on December 9th, 13th and 15th.
The Wizards are scheduled to appear on national television 19 times during the 2006-07 campaign, including eight ESPN telecasts (11/1 at CLE, 11/17 at DET, 12/8 at PHI, 12/22 at PHX, 1/12 at NOK, 2/23 at CHI, 4/6 vs. CLE, 4/18 at IND); nine NBATV games (11/4 vs. BOS, 11/18 vs. CLE, 12/4 vs. DAL, 12/17 at LAL, 1/23 vs. PHX, 1/30 vs. DET, 3/11 at MIA, 3/17 vs. NOK, 4/10 vs. NJN); one TNT broadcast (12/21 at SAC); and one contest in ABC's window (4/15 vs. CHI).
