Monumental Teams Combine For Five Emmy Nominations

WASHINGTON, DC – The Washington Wizards and Washington Capitals have been nominated for a combined five Capital Emmy awards. Documentary series chronicling the 2011-12 seasons of the two teams, Caps Red Line and Wizards Magazine – The Journey, were each nominated for Emmys in the categories of Best Sports Program/Series and Best Sports Editing while the Wizards and BASE Productions were recognized in the category of Best Commercial/Single Spot.

The shows air on the teams’ broadcast partner, Comcast SportsNet, with episodes also available on the teams’ respective websites, WashingtonCaps.com and WashingtonWizards.com.

Wizards Magazine – The Journey was executive produced, written and directed by Jumoke Davis, shot and edited by Taylor Gilbert and co-edited by Alana Sawyer. Each episode for the season was narrated by a different member of the Wizards/Bullets Alumni Association. The 2010-11 edition of Wizards Magazine won a Capital Emmy award in the category of editing.

Caps Red Line was produced by BASE Productions and the Capitals. Capitals vice president and chief marketing officer Joe Dupriest and Capitals director of game entertainment and TV production Michael Wurman oversee production of Caps Red Line. Chuck Roseberry served as supervising producer, with Timothy Libeau as editor, Todd Burger as videographer, Guerin Austin as host and graphics provided by Rhett Blankenship. The 2010-11 edition of Caps Red Line won a Capital Emmy award in the category of overall programming.

One Night was produced by the Wizards and BASE Productions. Wizards vice president of marketing Melissa Rentz oversaw production of the spot while Roseberry served as co-director/producer with Tim Gordon as co-director/director of photography and Libeau as editor.

The Capital Emmy ceremony will be held on June 16, 2012, at the Newseum in Washington, D.C. The National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS-NCCB) is a nonprofit, professional organization serving the Maryland, Virginia and Washington, D.C., television community. The Academy's EMMY® Award is the industry's benchmark for the recognition of television excellence.
