Monumental Sports & Entertainment Alumni and Staff Participate in Operation USO Care Package

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Capitals Hall-of-Fame alumnus Rod Langway and Bullets alumni Bob Dandridge, Jack Marin and Larry Stewart participated alongside 40 Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) staff members, Caps mascot Slapshot, several Wizards Girls and 25 USO-Metro volunteers in an Operation USO Care Package event on Wednesday, July 11, at the USO Warehouse in Fort Belvoir, Va. Langway, Dandridge, Marin, Stewart, Slapshot, the Wizards Girls and MSE employees volunteered with a mix of civilians, active duty military members and military spouses and children to assemble military family care packages that service members who are deploying will send home to their families.

"Having the Wizards, Mystics and Caps volunteering and being involved with the USO is great, I loved being here," said Marin.

Added Langway, "I was honored to help out with such a great cause today. The men and women in the military sacrifice so much and it was nice to be able to give back to them."

This is the first of three service projects that the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation is hosting for MSE employees this summer. In addition to working with USO-Metro in July, the Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation will also partner with D.C. Central Kitchen in August and Rebuilding Together Arlington/Fairfax/Falls Church in September. One of Monumental Sports & Entertainment's core values is the double-bottom line that engages, unifies and gives back to the community the organization serves on a daily basis.

The Monumental Sports & Entertainment Foundation supports the charitable efforts of the professional teams under its umbrella: The Washington Capitals, Mystics and Wizards. MSE is committed to the Washington, D.C., metropolitan area and focuses on the following five pillars to maximize its impact on the community: education and scholarship, hunger and homelessness, military and veterans' affairs, pediatric health and fitness and youth basketball and hockey.

USO-Metro is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization chartered by Congress and dedicated to "Serving those who serve, and their families" in Washington, D.C., Maryland and Northern Virginia. It is through the generous financial support of individuals and organizations in the local community that USO-Metro is able to fulfill its mission. With the help of nearly 5,000 devoted volunteers, USO-Metro provides programs and services for active duty troops and their families at area military hospitals; through its Mobile USO program; at five USO Centers, four USO airport lounges and through Operation USO Care Package.
