The Wizards moved to .500 on the year after a dominating performance, which saw them upend the Magic at home, 98-80. This was the best defensive effort of the year for the Wiz as the 80 points the Magic scored was the lowest number of the year for an opponent and Orlando shot just 39% from the field. Ariza continued his recent hot play with 24 points on 8/9 shooting and Wall added a double-double with 16 points and 13 assists.
The Wizards cruised for most of this one, but the Magic threatened midway through the third quarter, getting as close as seven with a 10-1 run. The Wizards would not let this one get interesting though as they immediately followed with a 9-0 run of their own and the Magic would never get within single digits again.
Player of the Game
Trevor Ariza has been shooting the ball phenomenally well and tonight was no different, scoring 24 points on 8/9 shooting. Ariza was also 4/4 from beyond the arc, making him 9/10 over his last two contests. He was also perfect from the charity stripe and added six rebounds.
.500. How could it be anything else tonight? The Wizards moved to 9-9, giving them a .500 winning percentage for the first time since 2009.
Marcin Gortat was solid as usual, particularly in the third quarter when the Magic made their run. He went for 13 points on 4/7 shooting in the game with eight of those points coming in the third quarter.
