A thrilling ending resulted in heartbreak for the Wizards as they fell 101-100 in overtime to the Atlanta Hawks on Wednesday night at Phillips Arena.

Kevin Seraphin hit a go-ahead jumper with 7.3 seconds left in the overtime session to give the Wizards a 100-98 lead. But, Kyle Korver answered that shot with a long three-pointer with 1.9 seconds left to give the Hawks the 101-100 lead. The Wizards would have one last chance to win, but Kevin Seraphin’s jump hook came up short and Martell Webster’s putback lay-in was ruled to be 0.1 of a second too late as the final buzzer sounded.

It was a crushing loss for a team still searching for their first win. The Wiz also had a lead at the end of regulation, but Devin Harris was able to sink two clutch free throws with seconds left to send the game into overtime.

The biggest bright spot of the game was the fact that Nene returned to action and sparked the Wizards with 12 points off the bench in 20 minutes of play. His presence made a big difference on the court and helped Kevin Seraphin to put in a season-high 21 points and pull down 10 boards to lead the team.

Trevor Ariza also had a nice night off the bench, ripping down a career-high 15 boards to go along with his 12 points. Also coming off the bench, A.J. Price put in 14 points, while Martell Webster finished with 10.

Next, the Wizards will host the Charlotte Bobcats at Verizon Center on Saturday night.
