African American Inventors
Black History Month Art Contest Winners

In honor of Black History Month, and in partnership with Verizon Wireless and Southwest Airlines, the Washington Wizards gave students the opportunity to celebrate the history, accomplishments, and impact of African-Americans Inventors through the 2007-2008 Black History Month Art Contest.

Ninth through twelfth grade students were asked to create an original piece of artwork that would celebrate an African-American Leader. Students were encouraged to display their artistic talents by creating an inspiring painting, drawing, collage or photograph that would highlight the history of African-American Inventor.

Each student who sent in a piece of work received tickets to the Wizards vs. Charlotte Bobcats February 23, 2008 game where all student’s artwork will be showcased on the Main Concourse.
