Pollin to Join Arenas in Scores for Schools Program

Mr. Pollin selects the 41 additional schools

When Wizards All-Star Guard Gilbert Arenas announced yesterday that he would give area schools $100 for each point he scores at Wizards home games this season, Wizards Owners Irene and Abe Pollin were impressed. So impressed were the Pollins that they have decided to join Arenas in his venture. With Arenas' and the Pollins help, 82 area schools will receive $100 for every point Arenas scores this season.

In a Verizon Center event Monday afternoon, Arenas selected one school for every one of the 41 Wizards home games this season and will donate $100 for every point he scores to the selected school. Arenas’ program will help supply schools with computers, athletic uniforms and equipment, as well as fund after-school programs.

"It's great that Mr. and Mrs. Pollin are partnering with me on this effort," said Arenas. "Now 82 schools - one for every game this season - will benefit."

The Pollins announced today that they will do the same for every Wizards road game. Beginning with the Wizards first road game versus the Cavaliers on Wednesday night, for every point Arenas scores, the Pollins will give $100 to a Washington-area school. COMPLETE LISTING

"I'm proud of Gilbert for initiating this wonderful program," said Abe Pollin. "Irene and I are just happy to be a part of it and to be able to help another 41 schools through the Gilbert Scores For Schools program. We both know how wonderful it feels to give back, and to be able to help kids."

Just as Arenas had done on Monday, Abe Pollin used a blind draw to select 41 additional schools from those that had entered the program but were not selected Monday.

Last season, Arenas was the fourth leading scorer in the NBA with an average of 29.3 points per game. In games played at Verizon Center last year, Arenas averaged 30.4 points per game with a total of 1,216 points scored, which would have amounted in $121,600 scored for schools.
