Wizards Care will highlight a series of Wizards Community Relations programs that focus on our five pillars: Education, Military and Veterans, Health and Fitness, Youth Basketball, and Homelessness and Hunger as well as NBA initiatives.
The entire Wizards organization is constantly in the community either giving back or interacting with fans. Check out some of the best appearances and fan interaction from the past year.
Timeout with the Wizards
Throughout the 2015-16 seasons the Washington Wizards will continue to host Reading Timeouts at various locations in the Metropolitan Area for elementary school-aged children.
Black History Month

In celebration of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.’s Birthday, the Washington Wizards will host the fourth annual “We Are Dreamers” Dr. King challenge for elementary, middle and high school-aged students. Participating students must submit original pieces of work on a specific focal point outlined by the Community Relations department. Additional information on the challenge will be posted soon!

“Spread the Word to End the Word”: Wizards and Special Olympics Unified Basketball Game
In a continued effort to raise awareness and in conjunction with the NBA league-wide campaign, the Wizards will continue our partnership with the local Special Olympics chapter by hosting the Spread to End the Word basketball game. During a Wizards home game in the month of March we will also recognize athletes from the Special Olympics as well as encourage fans to take the pledge to cease from using the “R” word.
MILITARY AND VETERANS
Salute to the Stars
In honor of Veteran’s Day, as well as our year-long commitment to Military and Veterans and the NBA’s Hoops for Troops initiative, the Wizards will host their annual Salute to the Stars program for members of the military community.
This season the Wizards and MSE foundation will welcome active, veterans, wounded warriors and family members whom have lost a loved one in combat, to a private practice followed by a community service project.
HEALTH AND FITNESS
Activate Wizards Fitness
Activate Wizards Fitness is a program geared toward helping elementary and middle school students live a fit and healthy lifestyle. The main purpose is to motivate children to participate in at least 60 minutes of physical activity per day, in conjunction with establishing healthy eating habits.
This season, the Wizards will host “Wizards Fitness Friday” one Friday each month during the season at a local DC Middle School.
A Healthy Trick-or-Treat
The Wizards team and staff will host a Healthy Halloween family costume party at the arena. This kid-friendly gathering is an opportunity for us to celebrate without consuming large amounts of sugar based candy and sweets.

HOMELESSNESS AND HUNGER
Wizards & NBC 4 Food-4-Families
The Washington Wizards and Mystics will join forces with NBC4 to host the annual Food-4-Families canned food drive collection. This day long campaign will take place outside of the Verizon Center (6th and F Street) beginning at 6:00am and concluding at 5:00pm on Monday, November 23rd Additional information about the event will be posted soon!
Wizards Employees Volunteer Program
It's not just the Players and Coaches that make a difference on and off the court, Wizards employees do so as well. Our employees participate in food delivery programs, canned food drives, Everybody Wins DC! our Family-to-Family program and much more!
