As a part of the NBA Cares Initiative, the league, teams and players will support Special Olympics’ third annual “Spread the Word to End the Word” awareness day on Wednesday, March 2. The campaign engages schools, organizations and communities in raising the consciousness of society about the dehumanizing and hurtful effects of the word “retard(ed)” and encouraging people to stop using the ‘R-word’.
Ten members of the Special Olympics, DC Chapter unified basketball team will participate in the fan tunnel as Wizards players enter the court when they take on the Golden State Warriors on Wednesday, March 2 at 7:00 p.m. Special Olympics will also be provided a table on the main concourse to distribute information and host an R-word pledge booth and have fans sign the R-word pledge banner.
