Black History Month Poetry Contest Winners Announced

On Thursday, Amtrak, the Washington Wizards and Etan Thomas announced the winners of the 2009 Black History Month Poetry Contest.

GRAND PRIZE WINNERS
Elementary: Brandon Ruffin, 5th grade, Mt. Vernon Community School, Alexandria, VA
Middle School: Brandon Jones, 7th grade, Roberto Clemente Middle School, Germantown, MD
High School: Akosua Johnson, 12th grade, Eleanor Roosevelt High School, Greenbelt, MD

The Grand Prize winners will receive the following:

  • Four (4) tickets to the Wizards vs. San Antonio Spurs home game on Saturday, February 21, 2009.
  • Dinner for four (4) in the Acela Club Restaurant on Saturday, February 21, 2009.
  • On-court ½ time presentation with presenting sponsors and Wizards Etan Thomas
  • Post-game meet and greet with Etan Thomas
  • Four (4) roundtrip tickets on Amtrak Northeast Regional to anywhere along the Northeast corridor
  • Winners will record their essays for Wizards website and Wizards Magazine Television Show.
  • Winners will also have an opportunity to have lunch on a private dining car with Etan Thomas

    Elementary: Alexandria Alexander, 3rd grade, Morningside Elementary, Suitland, MD
    Middle School: Ana Carranza, 8th grade, Dwight D. Eisenhower Middle School, Laurel, MD
    High School: Aiyla Arif, 9th grade, Centerville High School, Clifton, VA

    The First Place winners will receive the following:
