Stephen Curry Named NBA Western Conference Player Of The Month
Guard Joins Chris Mullin And Bernard King As Only Warriors To Receive Honor

Warriors guard Stephen Curry has been named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Month for games played in April, the NBA announced today. He becomes just the third Warriors player to earn Player of the Month honors, the first since Chris Mullin in November of 1990.

Curry averaged 25.4 points, 8.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds and 2.13 steals in 38.9 minutes, while shooting 46.5 percent from the field and 44.4 percent from three-point range in eight games in the month of April. The 6-3 guard recorded two double-doubles and one 20-point, 10-assist game while scoring 20-or-more points in five consecutive games (April 7-15), tying the second-longest streak of his career. Curry connected on 36-of-81 threes in April, hitting 20-of-39 (51.3 percent) over the final three games to finish the season with an NBA record 272 three-pointers, breaking the single-season mark set by Ray Allen in 2005-06 (269). He totaled 47 points, nine assists and six rebounds while hitting 9-of-15 from three-point range on April 12 at the Lakers, becoming the first player to score 45-or-more points in Los Angeles against the Lakers since Gilbert Arenas scored 60 on December 17, 2006. Curry is just the fourth Warrior in the team’s West Coast Era to score 45-plus at the Lakers, and the first since Rick Barry scored 49 on December 9, 1966 (others are Guy Rodgers and Wilt Chamberlain).

The award is the first of Curry’s career, as he joins Chris Mullin (November, 1990 & January, 1989) and Bernard King (January, 1981) as the only Warriors to ever earn Player of the Month honors since the NBA began giving out the award in 1979. Previous 2012-13 Western Conference Player of the Month Award winners include Kevin Durant (November & March), Chris Paul (December), Tony Parker (January) and Kobe Bryant (February).

In 78 games overall this season, the fourth-year veteran averaged 22.9 points (T-7th in NBA) and 6.9 assists (T-14th in NBA) while shooting 45.3 percent from three-point range (3rd in NBA) and 90.0 percent from the free throw line (T-2nd in NBA). Curry helped the Warriors to a 47-35 record, their most wins in a playoff season since the 1993-94 campaign. The Warriors are playing in their first postseason since the 2006-07 season, their second playoff berth in the past 19 years.

New York’s Carmelo Anthony earned Player of the Month honors in the Eastern Conference.
