Warriors Reach Out To San Bruno Fire Victims
September 24, 2010
On September 24th, Warriors Head Coach Keith Smart and swingman Reggie Williams visited San Bruno residents who were affected by the recent explosion and devastating fire.
About 60 people attended the event at the San Bruno Veterans Memorial Recreational Center ...
... and many of them were either affected by the fires first hand, had close friends and family members that lost everything or lived near the devastating explosion and could see everything from their own homes.
Warriors hype man Franco Finn emceed the event and introduced Coach Smart and Reggie Williams.
Warrior Girl Natalie was also on hand to mingle with the event's guests.
After the introductions, Reggie told the crowd that the Warriors were there for them and their community and that the Warriors will continue to support them as they work to rebuild the community.
Coach Smart knew firsthand how the San Bruno residents feel, as he and his wife lost their home to a fire when they lived in Indiana, and they had to live with his in-laws until they could get back on their feet.
Many of those in attendance truly connected to Coach Smart and began to ask numerous questions on how they could help others in their community.
Williams and Coach Smart answered several more questions that allowed those in attendance to truly get to know them.
Franco then took over the microphone to host a game of Warriors trivia.
After Franco asked the question, he'd give the mic to the first person with their hand up.
And those who answered correctly were awarded with Warriors prizes.
The entire event proved to be a great experience for both the Warriors and the San Bruno residents.
The San Bruno residents loved the opportunity to meet and mingle with the Warriors.
And both Reggie and Coach Smart were happy to sign autographs for those in attendance.
The residents were also quick to congratulate Smart on his promotion to head coach.
Before the event came to a close, the guests were treated to boxes upon boxes of Warriors clothing.
Before calling it a night, everyone in attendance held up the No. 1 in solidarity that the City of San Bruno was one family and would work together as one, and the Warriors will be there to suport them every step of the way.
The Warriors thank the City of San Bruno and Randy Schwartz for their help in coordinating the event.
