Ellis And Curry Help Feed The Children
December 16, 2010
Great teammates on the court, Monta Ellis and Stephen Curry joined forces for a much greater cause on December 16th.
Partnering with Feed The Children, the Warriors guard duo distributed boxes of food for 800 Bay Area families at Allen Temple Baptist Church in Oakland.
Feed The Children is an international hunger relief organization that has helped more than 180,000 American and military families across the country in cities that have been affected by the nations economic downturn.
It took two 18-wheeler trucks to deliver all of the goods to East Oakland, and the boxes were in place and ready to go when the players arrived.
Although Ellis, Curry and the Warriors Foundation provided the financial backing for the food trucks, the players had help in distributing the boxes from their families.
Before the food distribution began, event emcee and Warriors broadcaster Jim Barnett discussed the achievements made in the community by both Ellis and Curry.
Following Barnetts speech, Reverend Jacqueline Thompson (pictured) said a few words, as did Feed The Children representative Suzanne Werdann.
Each of the speakers complimented the Warriors guards for their efforts to affect positive change in the community, both in the Bay Area and in their respective hometowns.
Ellis has been especially active in the community since launching his ME8 Foundation over the summer.
Curry is no stranger to philanthropic work himself, as he is currently a finalist for a 2011 Jefferson Award for Public Service. Vote for him on the following Web site: http://ow.ly/3pTP4
Together, Ellis and Curry took on one of their biggest community challenges to date.
With Ellis and Curry feeding more than 800 families in need, the local media was all over the event.
In addition to the food boxes, everyone received personal care boxes from Avon.
Both Curry and Ellis took an active role in distributing the boxes to each of the families
and the players even took the occasional break to pose for photos.
Ellis and Currys food distribution was part of the Warriors annual Season of Giving.
Throughout the months of November and December, the Warriors have reached out to more than 5,000 children and their families and provided them with gifts and meals during this time of need.
Because of Ellis and Curry's generosity, many residents in the Bay Area will have a happy holiday season.
With the help of Ellis, Curry and their families, Feed The Childrens Americans Feeding Americans Caravan will have helped more than 200,000 familes by the end of 2010.
The ME8 Foundation, Ellis and Curry thank all of the volunteers who helped out in putting on this amazingly successful event.
And a special thank you goes out to Feed The Children and Allen Temple Baptist Church for their ongoing efforts to serve the community.
