The Golden State Warriors and The Solar Company unveiled more than 500 newly installed solar panels atop the team’s Downtown Oakland Practice Facility during a ceremony held at the facility on Thursday, January 21.

The ceremony, which included Warriors’ President Robert Rowell and rookie guard Stephen Curry, as well as The Solar Company President Mark Danenhower, was the culmination of a six-week installation project by The Solar Company that will enable the Golden State Warriors organization to power their team headquarters in a more environmentally friendly way. This is believed to be the first solar panel installation at an NBA practice facility.

“This solar installation project is a very important component of the Green Initiatives of the Golden State Warriors organization,” said Rowell. “Our solar program enables us to help protect and preserve the environment by reducing our carbon footprint, while also maintaining our practice facility as one of the NBA’s finest. The Solar Company team did a phenomenal job with the installation and we look forward to enjoying all the benefits that ‘going solar’ will provide.”

The installation project on the facility’s western-facing roof included 537 individual solar panels. The system has the capacity to save the team more than two million dollars in electricity costs over the next 25 years.
