Warriors Sign Season Ticket Holder John Chan
Fresno Resident Returns For Fourth Season Under Risk-Free Renewal Agreement

The Golden State Warriors have signed season ticket holder John Chan for the 2011-12 season, co-owners Joe Lacob and Peter Guber announced today. A member of the greatest fan base in all of professional sports, Chan came to terms on a risk-free agreement that will ensure his place at Oracle Arena next season.

“This renewal plan is just one small example of our commitment to our shareholders,” said Lacob. “We owe it to our incredible fans, like John, to raise our level of expectations for this organization and to perform at the highest level in all possible phases.”

John, who resides in Fresno, has been a season ticket holder since 2008 and attends approximately 20 games each season. He lists Rick Barry as his all-time favorite Golden State player and was especially impressed with Barry’s all-around game and leadership during the Warriors’ 1975 NBA Championship season, when the underdog Warriors swept the Washington Bullets in the NBA Finals (4-0). Additionally, he considers David Lee as his favorite current player on the roster.

“I really like David’s overall game,” said John, who lists the Warriors’ come-from-behind overtime win over the Orlando Magic on March 11 as the most exciting game of the season. “He’s a double-double machine and is a very underrated passer. Personally, I think he is in line for a breakout season next year and I think the team will be better next season, too. We just need to take care of business against non-winning teams, because we beat a lot of good teams this season.”

Although he’s been a season ticket holder for only three years, John has many fond memories of the Warriors dating back to the ‘70’s and ‘80’s. In fact, he notes that the most memorable game he has ever attended was a classic Warriors/Lakers game during the 1987 NBA Playoffs.

“Sleepy Floyd scored 29 points in the fourth quarter and 51 points in the game,” said John, referring to the still-standing record for points in a quarter of a playoff game. “It was an incredible performance by Sleepy, especially when you consider it was against a championship-caliber team like the Lakers.”

One of the lucky fans chosen to shoot a half-court shot for $25,000 at the last home game of the season, John considers the experience a thrill and something he will always remember.

“It was a tremendous experience,” said John. “Although I missed the shot like everyone else, I would not trade it for anything!”

“We feel very fortunate to retain a fan like John for the upcoming season,” said Guber. “He is a valued member of our organization, and one of the key components to the unmatched atmosphere at Oracle Arena. Our goal is to honor and reward our fans’ loyalty in every way possible.”

As a renewed season ticket holder, Chan was automatically entered for the chance to win prizes at a recent Warriors game, including the opportunity to shoot a half court shot for $25,000 cash. See a video recap of his experience below, including the prize package he chose.
