The Warriors opened up their 2009-10 season with a 108-107 loss to the Houston Rockets on Wednesday night at Oracle Arena. Golden State had a chance to tie it at the end on an Anthony Morrow three-pointer, but his shot was off the mark and rookie Stephen Currys putback as time expired could only bring the Warriors within one point. Monta Ellis led all scorers with 26 points, while Curry had 14 points, seven assists and four steals in his NBA debut. Golden State will now have one day off before traveling to face the Phoenix Suns on Friday.

QUOTES

Don Nelson
On Tonight's Game:
I guess thats why I hate home openers. My complaint was my team when we came out at half time just didnt have very much going. We are going to have to play a lot better than we played tonight; still I think that quarter did us in. I was very pleased with (Stephen) Curry. I thought he and (Monta) Ellis in the backcourt were good and active. We have some work to do to get (Anthony) Morrow more involved.

On the Third Quarter:
I dont want to get specific or call names but we made a bunch of turnovers. We also didnt find the open man and made defensive errors. We didnt have an answer for (Luis) Scola tonight and we didnt really want to space our defense too much so we didnt double team him. I thought our big guys could handle him but he had a big night against us.

Monta Ellis
On Playing With Stephen Curry:
"We got to get to know each other, play more, talk more...just get more games under our belts together and we'll come along. It was great. He got all the open shots he could possibly get, and took them like Coach wanted. He found the open man. For his first game as an NBA player he handled himself well."

Stephen Curry
On His First Game:
"It was a lot of fun for me. We played well most of the game, it was just a game of runs and they had a bigger run than we did and we couldn't come back from that. I had a lot of fun tonight, learned a lot and now I'm ready to come back against the Phoenix Suns."

On His Shot:
"I just have to have confidence that the next shot is going in. And using the way they defend the ball screen and trying to get open shots and try and move the ball. I think we did that well in the first, second and fourth quarter. The third quarter kind of got stagnant a little bit, we took some tough shots and they just didn't fall so they got back in the game. But for me, I thought, the shot felt good and I think I got a lot of confidence back for the next game."
