January 8, 2009 Sidney Moncrief Accepts Position With Beijing Ducks Warriors Assistant Coach To Serve As Consultant To Chinese Basketball Association Team
Moncrief, 51, will serve the Ducks as a Consultant, which will entail various responsibilities, including the mentoring of the team’s coaching staff. “This is a tremendous opportunity for me,” said Moncrief. “I have worked with members of the Chinese Basketball Association in the past and look forward to expanding my horizons and sharing my basketball knowledge. I certainly enjoyed my time with the Warriors organization and, obviously, owe a great deal of thanks and gratitude to Don Nelson, who has been a friend, mentor and associate of mine for the last 30 years. He’s opened up many doors for me following my playing days and we will always remain close.” A five-time NBA All-Star during his 11-year NBA career, Moncrief originally joined the Warriors as a Shooting Coach prior to the 2007-08 campaign.
“I’m really happy for Sidney as he begins a new chapter in his life,” said Nelson. “He’s been a special person in my life dating back to his rookie season in Milwaukee in 1979. He’s bright, hard-working, understands the nuances of game and will be a big asset to the team in Beijing. It’s a win-win for everyone.”
