Warriors To Promote Preseason Games in China And Participate in NBA FIT Clinics To Encourage Active And Healthy Lifestyles

NBA Nation, the NBA’s largest mobile basketball playground, will return to China for the second consecutive year and will visit 12 cities from May 31 to August 18, giving fans the chance to enjoy basketball contests, interact with NBA players and pose with the Larry O’Brien NBA Championship Trophy, the NBA announced. Warriors players Klay Thompson and Harrison Barnes will participate in the tour, with Thompson attending June 13-24 in Xi’an and Chengdu and Barnes attending August 2-14 in Qingdao and Tianjin. Media availability for both players in the U.S. and in China will be announced at a later date.

As part of the NBA’s comprehensive global games schedule during the 2013-14 preseason, the Warriors will travel to China to play the Los Angeles Lakers in Beijing’s MasterCard Center on October 15 and in Shanghai’s Mercedes Benz Arena on October 18. The Warriors finished the 2012-13 regular season with a 47-35 record and advanced to the Western Conference semifinals before losing to the San Antonio Spurs. This will be the team’s second visit to China as part of the NBA Global Games, when the Warriors played two preseason contests with the Milwaukee Bucks in Beijing (1-0) and Guangzhou (0-1) during the 2008-09 NBA preseason.

While on the NBA Nation China Tour, Thompson and Barnes will host an NBA FIT Clinic, participating in a variety of basketball activities, signing autographs and interacting with fans.

Throughout the NBA Nation tour, other NBA players will make appearances including O.J. Mayo of the Dallas Mavericks, NBA All-Star’s Paul George of the Indiana Pacers and LaMarcus Aldridge of the Portland Trail Blazers, along with Terrence Ross of the Toronto Raptors. NBA dance teams will also attend NBA Nation stops and put on performances in select cities.

Fans in China will have the opportunity to pose with the Larry O'Brien NBA Championship in all 12 cities. It will be showcased at an NBA playoff-themed exhibition area at each location.

In its continued effort through the NBA FIT program to support health and wellness, NBA China will partner with the China Youth Development Foundation to conduct NBA FIT Clinics in all 12 cities. During the clinics, NBA players will teach students basketball skills and lead them through a series of exercise routines while emphasizing the importance of living an active, healthy lifestyle.

NBA Nation will feature interactive activities and live DJ performances giving fans of all ages a playground to shoot, slam and dribble, and the chance to participate in activities including Measure Ups and NBA video game contests.

With the support of its marketing partners, NBA Nation will feature the following activities:

  • Slam Dunk Contest
  • Knockout Challenge
  • “Win From Within” Basketball Challenge
  • Skills Challenge
  • NBA 3x3 Tournament

The respective city champions of the NBA 3x3 Tournament will be awarded NBA merchandise and player autographs, with the overall champions awarded a trip to NBA All-Star 2014 in New Orleans. Participants of all the contests will also have the opportunity to win prizes provided by Head & Shoulders, PEAK, Gatorade and Harbin Beer.
