Monta Ellis Named Western Conference Player of the Week
Warriors Guard Averaged 20.5 Points, 7.5 Assists and 2.00 Steals En Route to Second Career Honor

Warriors guard Monta Ellis has been named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, March 5, through Sunday, March 11, the NBA announced today.

Ellis led the Warriors to a 3-1 record, including consecutive wins over the defending champion Dallas Mavericks (March 10) and on the road against the Los Angeles Clippers (March 11), with averages of 20.5 points, 7.5 assists, 3.5 rebounds and 2.00 steals. The 6-3 guard shot 50.0 percent from the field over those four games, including 8-of-12 (.667) from downtown, and capped the week with 21 points and 11 assists against the Clippers for his 14th career 20-10 game (second this season).

The six-year veteran, who leads all shooting guards in assists (6.0) for a second consecutive season, tallied at least 20 points and eight assists in all three wins this week, including a 25-point, eight-assist, five-rebound performance in a 20-point win over Washington on March 5. Ellis is one of just five players in the NBA averaging at least 20 points and six assists per game, along with All-Stars LeBron James, Chris Paul, Derrick Rose, and Deron Williams.

The award is the second such honor in Ellis’ career, previously earning the accolade for games played from December 20-26, 2010, making him the last Warrior to do so. It is the 28th time a Warriors player has been named Player of the Week since the NBA began giving out the award in 1979 and puts Ellis in the company of Baron Davis, Tim Hardaway, Bernard King, Chris Mullin and Larry Smith as the only multiple winners in Warriors history.

In 37 games this season (all starts), Ellis leads the team with 21.9 points (ninth in the NBA), 6.0 assists (16th) and 1.51 steals (16th) while also grabbing 3.4 rebounds in 36.9 minutes (10th).

Milwaukee’s Ersan Ilyasova earned Player of the Week honors in the Eastern Conference.
