Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry has been named the NBA Western Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, January 2, through Sunday, January 8, the NBA announced today. The award is the eighth career Player of the Week honor for Curry, more than any other player in franchise history, and the second for the Warriors this season (Kevin Durant earned the award for games played from November 21-27).

Curry led the Warriors to a 3-1 record on the week with averages of 31.8 points, 5.5 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.00 steals in 37.7 minutes while hitting 50.0 percent from the field. The reigning MVP finished third in the Western Conference in scoring and ended the week with three-straight 30-point games, including his second 40-point outing of the season in an overtime loss to Memphis on January 6. Curry hit 18 three-point field goals during the week, moving past Dale Ellis (16th) and J.R. Smith (15th) to rank 14th all-time in career three-pointers. Curry became the seventh player in Warriors history to score 12,000 career points, reaching the 12,000-point threshold in the January 6 contest.
In addition to his 40-point performance—the 24th 40-point regular-season game in his career—Curry tallied 35 points in a home win over Portland on January 4 and finished the week with 30 points in a road win at Sacramento. The Warriors own an NBA-best record of 32-6 (.842).
The award marks the 45th time a Warriors player has been named Player of the Week since the NBA began giving out the award in 1979. Chicago’s Jimmy Butler was named Player of the Week in the Eastern Conference.
