Warriors Acquire Clifford Robinson From Pistons
Guard Pepe Sanchez Also Obtained In Exchange For Bob Sura

The Golden State Warriors have acquired forward/center Clifford Robinson and guard Juan “Pepe” Sanchez from the Detroit Pistons in exchange for guard Bob Sura, general manager Garry St. Jean announced today. ( Listen to audio clip)

"We feel this is a tremendous addition to our team," said St. Jean. "Cliff Robinson was a starter for a team in the Eastern Conference Finals last season and has been a winner his entire career. Additionally, he is an excellent defensive player and will provide some quality depth to our team."

Robinson, a 14-year NBA veteran who has appeared in the playoffs every year of his career, has averaged 15.8 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.4 assists, 1.11 steals and 1.09 blocks in 1,097 regular season games. In 81 games this past season (69 starts), Robinson averaged 12.2 points, 3.9 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.07 steals and 1.09 blocks in 34.9 minutes per contest, helping lead the Pistons to the best record in the Eastern Conference. Additionally, he started all 17 of the Pistons playoffs games en route to an appearance in the Conference Finals.

A true NBA iron-man, the 6-10 Robinson has missed only 19 games due to injury during his career, which includes years with Portland, Phoenix and Detroit. A two-time NBA All-Defensive Second Team selection, the University of Connecticut product was named the NBA’s Sixth Man of the Year in 1992-93 while with Portland. In 125 career playoff games, he has averaged 11.1 points, 4.1 rebounds, 1.9 assists, 1.02 steals and 1.02 blocks – making it to the NBA Finals, Conference Finals and Semi-Finals twice each, in addition to eight other appearances in the First Round of the postseason.

Sanchez, 6-4, has appeared in 38 NBA games over two seasons with Atlanta, Philadelphia and Detroit, averaging 0.5 points in 4.9 minutes per contest. He became the first Argentine to play in the NBA when he made his NBA debut for the Hawks on October 31, 2000 after signing with Atlanta as an undrafted free agent.

Sura, an eight-year NBA veteran, averaged 7.3 points, 3.0 rebounds and 3.2 assists for the Warriors this past season, appearing in 55 games. Overall for his career, he has averaged 8.6 points, 3.1 rebounds and 3.7 assists in 516 contests with Cleveland and Golden State.
