Belinelli, a 6-5 guard from Bologna, Italy, was a member of the Warriors NBA Summer League team in Las Vegas, where he averaged 22.8 points, 1.8 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 37.3 minutes in four games, while shooting 43.5% from the floor and 44.4% from three-point range. On July 7, the 21-year-old made his Warriors debut in a Summer League game against the New Orleans Hornets, registering 37 points (14-20 FG, 5-7 3FG, 4-6 FT), five rebounds, two assists and one steal in 40 minutes. His efforts helped him earn NBA Summer League All-Star honors.
Prior to entering the 2007 NBA Draft, Belinelli played professionally in Italy for each of the past five seasons. In 33 games last season with Fortitudo Bologna in Serie A, the top professional league in Italy, Marco averaged 16.4 points per game, while shooting 54.4% (99-182 FG) from the field. In 13 Euroleague contests, he averaged 12.9 points on 43.8% (32-73 FG) from the field. A member of the Italian National Team, Belinelli averaged 13.5 points per game during last summer’s FIBA World Championship, including 25 points in a losing effort against Team USA in preliminary round play.
