NEW YORK, March 1 – Golden State Warriors guard Jason Richardson and Chicago Bulls guard Trenton Hassell today were named the Western Conference and Eastern Conference got milk? Rookies of the Month, respectively, for games played in the month of February.

Richardson led all rookies in scoring (19.3 ppg) while adding 4.5 rebounds and 2.9 assists in 12 games for the Warriors. Hassell played in 13 games, including starting the final eight games of the month, and averaged 10.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists as the Bulls finished the month 6-7. Jason Richardson, Golden State Warriors

  • Feb. 1 at Phoenix: Recorded 22 points, five rebounds and a career-high five steals in a 104-98 road loss to the Suns.
  • Feb 13. vs. Boston: Returned from the NBA All-Star break to record 19 points, a career-high 10 rebounds and two assists in a 92-75 win over the visiting Celtics.
  • Feb. 22 at Milwaukee: His 35 points were the most by a rookie this season and the most by a Warriors rookie since 1994. Also added five assists and three rebounds in a 116-112 loss to the Bucks.
  • Named the MVP of the ‘got milk?’ Rookie Challenge (26 points and six rebounds) and won the 2002 NBA.com Slam Dunk presented by RealOne on NBA All-Star Saturday Night.

    Trenton Hassell, Chicago Bulls

  • Feb. 6 at L.A. Lakers: Scored 11 points while adding a four rebounds and an assist in a 97-89 win over the Lakers.
  • Feb. 15 vs. New Jersey: Had 20 points, two rebounds, three assists, three blocks and two steals in a 106-81 loss to the Nets.
  • Feb. 16 vs. Cleveland: Recorded 18 points, two assists and a block in a 114-101 loss to the Cavaliers.
  • Feb. 20 vs. New York: Had 12 points, six rebounds, one assist, a block and two steals in a 113-109 win over the visiting Knicks.
  • Reached double-figures in scoring on six occasions for the month.
  • Shot .468 (22-of-47) from three-point range.

    Other candidates for the Eastern and Western Conference got milk? Rookies of the Month were Chicago’s Tyson Chandler, Houston’s Eddie Griffin, New Jersey’s Richard Jefferson, Philadelphia’s Speedy Claxton and Seattle’s Vladimir Radmanovic.
